E-commerce...the big jump!
The web gives us so many options that making even a reasonably informed decision is something akin to a game of blind folded darts. If you ask a group of business owners what e-commerce platform they use some will give you different answers and a some may give the same suggestion...which suggestion should you take? If more people know of a particular product does it mean that it is the best or that they have a good marketing team? We believe that the proof is in the pudding, we never recommend or use any products or services that we have not tested and used first. When our clients ask for a solution they get a solution, not almost perfect. We believe there is a perfect fit for every price range and feature set. If you can imagine it we can make it happen.
How to jump, and where?
So you need a quick shopping cart put together to sell three (or three hundred) products on-line by tomorrow? A tall order, but we have a plan for you. Do you need a large store that won't bog down in your peak season? We have a plan for you. There are always options, the trick is figuring out what the best combination of options will get you to where you want to go. We have been figuring out these options for quite some time and we can definitely give you the leg up that you need to make a graceful landing. Some important info for online merchants.
If you are going to do a little reasearch yourself here are some reminders and info to get you started: (if anything in this list doesn't make sense take a peek at the production page it has definitions for all of the information below.
- ₪ First and for most make sure that your hosting provider no matter if it is shared or dedicated (which should be decided based on your cart and performance requirements) is at least PCI compliant, read as 'minimum security'.
- ₪ The next think that you need to make sure of is your cart's PCI compliance, this is generally pretty easy, and most newer carts are, but you should check anyway. How your store will achieve compliance is heavily dependent on the next point.
- ₪ Your payment gateway's PCI compliance!...sensing a trend? Security is the most important thing that you can do to ensure that you get a seat at the fantastic e-commerce table. One misstep in this arena means that your business is personally responsible for damages that can quickly feel exponential.
- ₪ To be considered for use every cart should have certain features built-in, one is product level SEO, another is SSL. We strongly recommend these features too, one page checkout, and automatic product image resizing.
- ₪ Especially with carts, you get what you pay for. The platform that you sell all of your product on needs to work well. If you didn't pay for it, it doesn't mean that it won't work, it just means that the 60,000+ files that comprize your site have been cobbled together by volunteers. Your call.
- ₪ Merchant accounts have the single biggest effect on your profits of any part of the e-commerce chain, yet they arguably do the least work. I like to think of them as a necessary evil, like insurance. The same rules apply when choosing one.
- ₪ Gateways need not be contracted separately, most decent merchant processors already have excellent deals brokered with the gateway providers.
- ₪ As far as SSL certificates goes 95% of the cost is name brand. You are actually buying trust from your customers, they like and trust a brand name of issuer then theoretically that translates into more completed sales.
- ₪ Many times the best way to start off an internet business is to go with a hosted solution, meaning you have less control and a higher monthly fee, but the cost of entry is relatively low.
- ₪ A great way to promote a web business is through physical location based marketing, and word of mouth, don't underestimate the traditional marketing methods just because the storefront is online.
- ₪ The web does not represent the quick and easy way to fantastic success. There is just as much work and effort that goes into launching or maintaining a successful online business as there is for a brick and mortar store.
